Our founder, Kat

As a teenager, I asked my mum to teach me how to sew because it was no longer taught in school. Little did she know that day, she was introducing me to a passion that was going to shape the rest of my life.

Since then, I graduated in fashion design at Cégep Marie-Victorin with, at the time, no intention of working in that industry. I wanted to learn so I could cultivate my own passion, not to make a career of it.

After my studies, I spent many years abroad, exploring and learning to know myself in far from related industries. I carried on sewing for me, slowly building my me-made wardrobe, collecting the compliments and the "you should start a business". And the answer was always no!

Until I made it back to Montreal and discovered that my local thrift shops sold second-hand fabric. That's when a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me! I could finaly create all while respecting my values.

I built DARN Atelier in the hope of showing the world that it's possible to make new and durable with the old.
